Reporting to the Training Specialist, the focus of the Material Handling Equipment Trainer will ensure provincial training requirements are met and documented training validation to all pertinent teammates and management staff, within the Customer Fulfilment Centre. This role will also provide process training relevant to the functions in order to conduct end to end operational training in line with Sobeys Inc. workplace guidelines and policies.

Job Description

  • Oversee and provide Material Handling Equipment Training and Certification to employees in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the CSA for Powered Lift Trucks.
  • Oversee and provide Preferred Methods training according to Voila standard operating procedures.
  • Oversee and provide training according to Voila Standard Operating Procedures and training packages.
  • Ensure employee training records are maintained in hard copy form and in the training database at the conclusion of training.
  • Ensure all team members follow and demonstrate Voila workplace standards, practices and training content in a consistent manner.
  • Assist with Standard Operating Procedure development and updates.
  • Accurately document and verify current and new teammates competency and complete appropriate documentation in a confidential manner, conduct and document periodic “spot checks” to measure competency and performance.
  • In conjunction with the Health and Safety and Operations Management, work dynamically to ensure risk assessments, safe working systems, procedures and policies are in place.
  • Provide feedback to the Training Specialist and members of management, in order to aid the development of new and existing team members.
  • Provide clear communication between relevant departments such as Operations, Health and Safety, Human Resources, JHSC, etc.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment as per company requirements.
  • Be a member of a dynamic team to refine and improve training procedures.

Job Requirements

  • Certification as an MHE Instructor is mandatory.
  • Certified Material Handling Equipment operator on pallet truck (BT’s Included), reach truck and dock stocker.
  • Experience training colleagues and/or supervising new staff.
  • Knowledge of all processes and roles as they pertain to Operations.
  • Enthusiasm and passion for sharing skills and knowledge.
  • Works well under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently and as well as in a team dynamic.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Excel is considered an asset.
  • Good understanding of Ontario Health and Safety Act and CSA standards applicable to warehouse operations.
  • Good time management skills and the flexibility to work different schedules.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
