The Safety Coordinator oversees Occupational Health and Safety & Food Safety, evaluates and monitors health and safety hazards and develops strategies to prevent, control and eliminate accidents and occupational injuries. They inspect the workplace environments, equipment and practices to ensure compliance with organization and government legislations, health and safety standards and regulations simultaneously with a focus on Food Safety compliance and record keeping.
Here’s where you’ll be focusing:
• Develop and implement health and safety programs, including standard operating policies and procedures.
• Identify safety training requirements, schedule and facilitate training and make recommendations to the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee (JOHSC).
• Co-Chair the JOHSC, ensuring collaboration with the committee, management team, and employees to support and advance a positive culture of Health and Safety (H&S).
• Communicate, coach, engage and influence decision-makers and workers, to ensure compliance with Health & Safety (H&S) legislation and regulations.
• Investigate accidents and identify root causes and enforce preventative measures.
• Conduct safety observation audits.
• Maintain, update, prepare and present reports on company's safety procedures, accidents and violations.
• Maintain and update all record keeping and tracking for H&S and food safety.
• Act in the capacity of a subject matter expert for Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA): Food Safety regulations and policies.
• Maintain the warehouse Food Safety Program, liaise with the National Food Safety team and management, to develop and implement new processes as required.
• Closely monitor CFIA and the recall system.
• Coordinate and conduct CFIA visits/inspections at the RSC.
• Extensive experience of deep clean and sanitation P&P, mold prevention and decontamination.
• Expert knowledge of cross contamination, allergens, environmental spills, emergency response plans, pest infestation and control.
• Compliance with all Company food safety standards, guidelines and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned by management.
What you have to offer:
• The ideal candidate will have a combination of experience and education that lays a foundation for success in Occupational Health & Safety. A diploma and or 5 years of work experience in H&S, preferably in the industrial sector (e.g., distribution warehouse, mechanical repair shop) or comparable environment.
• Strong leadership skills, including the ability to motivate a team and provide feedback.
• Strong knowledge of relevant legislation in Ontario, including JOHSA and Workers Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB).
• Expert knowledge of CFIA- federal acts and regulations related to food safety in Canada:
- Food and Drugs Act
- Safe Food for Canadians Act
• Strong ability to gather and analyze data from multiple sources and format measurable action plans.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills, and the ability to interact easily at all levels of the organization.
• Attentive to details, keen observational skills, decisive, ability to handle stress and manage time.
• Previous experience conducting workplace inspections and investigations in a similar industry will be an asset.
• Comprehensive skills with Microsoft Office, EXE, Ariba, Kronos. (Preferred)
• Ability to work various shifts, based on business needs.
