The Category Manager, E-Commerce will be accountable for building, leading, and implementing category strategies in support of the overall e-commerce merchandising strategy, through effective assortment, pricing, promotions, and placement. 

Here’s where you’ll be focusing:

  • Manage e-commerce merchandising plan for multiple categories – e.g., fresh, grocery, emerging
  • Utilize market research (including category, competitor and customer information) to create the e-commerce assortment strategy to deliver the e-commerce P&L.
  • Support the development of e-commerce category playbooks in collaboration with merchandising / category management team, including defining category roles and intents, product range, key suppliers, pricing and promotions, mix and margins, substitutions, and sourcing strategy / supply chain approach
  • Translate e-commerce category playbooks into SKU-level assortment, including shared national SKUs and online-only extended aisle SKUs.
  • Build strong relationships with merchandising / category management teams on supplier standards and on boarding, leveraging national scale in buying and negotiations.
  • Work with merchandising services team on SKU-level data requirements
  • Work with forecasting, replenishment team on category budgets and forecasts
  • Work with marketing team on promotions strategy, ad planning process, and site / app placements (including supplier-funded promotions)
  • Manage own category management budget
  • Manage category performance to deliver the e-commerce P&L, including sales, margin, profit, inventory and market share
  • Conduct post-buy analysis to inform future buying decisions
  • Communicate and report e-commerce category performance and financial results

What you have to offer:

  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in senior merchandising role in e-commerce or retail
  • Technical - high level of comfort/familiarity with MS Excel and big data is a must
  • Analytical - someone with analytical background, not afraid of dealing with large sets of data and unpack insights really quickly.
  • Experience developing and executing category strategies
  • Ability to analyze category data and determine trends and opportunities
  • Ability to build relationships with internal teams and external suppliers
  • Ability to partner with leadership team on e-commerce strategies 
  • Collaborative with logical thinking and capability
  • Resilient and adaptable to fast-paced environment
  • Strategic thinking with deep understanding of e-commerce or the retail industry
  • Solid organizational, interpersonal, time management and skills
  • Experience using SAP beneficial but not required
  • Bachelor’s Degree or a combination of relevant work experience
  • Bilingual in English and French; the candidate will be expected to work with peers in other provinces in the development, development and implementation of tools and processes across Canada, as well as provide support to Sobeys employees across Canada (English - 50%, French - 50%)

The salary range for this position in British Columbia is $73,000.00 - $101,000.00. We will consider factors such as your working location, work experience and skills as well as internal equity, and market conditions to ensure that you are paid fairly and competitively.
