Overview

Sobeys is looking for a Quality Control Inspector - Produce to join our team in Surrey BC.  The successful candidate will work shifts starting from 5:00 or 6:00 in the evening that will go into the early morning.  This is a highly responsible job, candidates will have the ability to work independently to deliver the best quality fruits and vegetables to our customers.   

Job Description

Retail Service Centre (RSC) Quality Control (QC) Analysts
• Reject and document product that does not meet specifications
• Verify weight, temperature, size, pressure test, refractometer test, package and pallet integrity of product
• Identify superior quality of product and communicate to Replenishment and Category
Management teams
• Verify calibration of testing equipment (as applicable)
• Request government inspections and facilitate sampling process
• Inspect inbound product according to established Standard Operating Procedures and
specifications which includes random sampling and defect identification
• Monitor inventory by completing daily cooler inspections; report inferior quality to appropriate
team for recommended action
• Monitor RSC handling and storage procedures in conjunction with RSC Management (i.e. cold
chain management and slotting)
• Inspect and ripen bananas and avocados (as applicable)
• Verify and issue credits for store quality claims
• Facilitate returns to vendors and complete documentation (as applicable)
• Work with the RSC team to coordinate receiving and distribution of product
• Build relationships and work with appropriate government agencies and vendors to facilitate
timely completion of inspections
• Communicate with QC Field Specialists on product quality and potential vendor improvements
• Assist with the mediation of claims
 

Job Requirements


•    Ability to understand quality control functions
•    Ability to communicate effectively with category teams, replenishment teams and vendors (as applicable)
•    Ability to work with a team
•    Ability to work in a stress and pressure environment
•    Ability to adapt to rapidly changing environment and workloads
•    Ability to prioritize tasks and multitask while performing under time constraints
•    Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written
•    Ability to work independently and be self-motivated
•    Able to work with and calibrate tools such as scales, pressure testers and pulp thermometers
•    1-2 years experience as USDA/CFIA inspector, retail produce manager, private produce Inspection Company, and produce grower/wholesaler or familiarity with USDA and CFIA requirements
•    Proficient use of appropriate QC equipment
•    General understanding of Food Safety Requirements
•    Power jack certification (training available in house)
•    Valid driver’s license (Field only)
•    Ability to determine colors
