The Senior Transportation Specialist is responsible for coordinating incremental freight, mainly Produce, from within the Western RSC network.  The Senior Transportation Specialist will manage productivity, performance, transport planning, budget planning and follow up. The Senior Transportation Specialist also coordinates with all Western Canada warehouse operations organizing transportation lanes and freight movement minimizing stranded capacity. 

 

Here’s where you’ll be focusing:

  • Work closely with RSC team mates to create a coaching and development culture
  • Executes incremental (non-store delivery backhaul) freight movement for produce and all other cross dock mainly but not exclusively from Campbell Heights to other RSC’s.
  • Superior knowledge of shipping multi-temperature commodities over long distances utilizing control technologies and other means to protect freight. 
  • Works with all RSC’s to coordinate freight deliveries and eliminate dead head transport, using tools to forecast transport requirements
  • Works closely with RSC inbound teams to ensure quality and accuracy of loads are met, follow up as required
  • Ensures freight allowance is collected. Verifies all carrier and owner operator billings are accurate.
  • Establish and monitor freight budgets and expense controls, reports on performance, providing variance analysis and explanations for deviations from budgets and standards.
  • Create real time notification platform to all RSC’s for freight movement
  • Works with RSC and transportation leaders to ensure freight movement is in line with scheduling, holiday coverage.
  • Works closely with Procurement, Quality Control, and the Distribution team to deliver a superior level of customer service

What you have to offer:

  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Lotus Notes, and DC related software such as ProClass, EXE, Kronos, etc.
  • Good communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Results oriented leader, with solid judgment and decision making skills
  • Demonstrated successful ability working with cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated successful planning and analysis skills
  • Strong leadership, teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Degree, diploma or certificate in business management or operations, and a minimum of 7 years experience in a senior warehousing, transportation or logistics management position, or equivalent combination of education and experienceDemonstrated successful experience leading and managing complex DC operations
