Overview

Sobeys is full of exciting opportunities and we are always looking for bright new talent!  We currently have a full-time opportunity for a Supervisor, Retail Accountant to join our Finance team based out of our office in Stellarton, NS.

Job Description

What you will do in this fast-paced role:

  • Create a coaching and development culture for all employees
  • Manage direct reports including: selection, orientation, training and development, performance management, succession planning and compensation
  • Facilitate communication between teams and all other relevant functional areas
  • Review and approve journal entries
  • Complete period-end review of working papers 
  • Ensure timely and accurate production of the working paper files for banner
  • Complete period-end review of margins (by banner, department and store)
  • Conduct investigations into unusual margins (and/or support retail accountants in performing such analysis) 
  • Complete period-end review and analysis of expenses (including labour by banner, by store, by department)
  • Review select banner-wide adjustments such as: O&A, coupons, etc.
  • Prepare required analysis for the external auditors including: regression analysis, inventory graphs, etc.
  • Review departmental margins with the objective of identifying reasons for deviation from budget and ensuring accurate margin reporting
  • Manage store closures, prepare final store closing entries and co-ordinate with other stakeholders
  • Special assignments as assigned by the Manager and/or Director
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment as per company requirements
