Sobeys is full of exciting opportunities, and we are always looking for bright new talent to join our team! We currently have a full-time opportunity for a Senior Tech Lead - Data Platforms. This role can be based out of one our main offices including: Stellarton, NS; Mississauga, ON; Calgary, AB.

Here’s where you’ll be focusing:

 

As a Senior Tech Lead - Data Platforms with Sobeys, you will:

 

 

 

  • Work in the Platform Administration team within the Enterprise Data Office.
  • Perform all administration functions within the Snowflake platform
  • Implement cost monitoring techniques and optimizations.
  • Implement and support automation for production deployment in Snowflake.
  • Define and implement Snowflake standards and methodologies.
  • Implement and support automation for administering Snowflake accounts, databases, and roles.
  • Implement data sharing and replication.
  • Create Snowflake utilization and capacity plan.
  • Propose and implement database and Snowflake query performance optimizations.
  • Identify system bottlenecks and recommend solutions.
  • Implement Snowflake user and query log analysis and alerts.
  • Implement data encryption/decryption/masking policies to protect sensitive data.
  • Support the Enterprise Data Office data engineering teams to standardize data integration patterns that will facilitate seamless data flow between source systems and the Snowflake platforms.  
  • Support in the delivery of the enterprise-wide data architecture/data modeling strategy for our Enterprise Data Lake and a business consumption layer that aligns with the organization's business goals and objectives. 
  • Champion the Enterprise Data Office goals and guiding principles:
    • Build trust in data and how we use it.
    • Establish and embed collaborative ways of working to accelerate our data transformation.
    • Champion the safe and scalable use of data across the organization

What you have to offer:

 

  • Technical expertise in all aspects of Snowflake.
  • Hands-on experience in administering Snowflake.
  • Experience in implementing Snowflake external functions.
  • Experience securing sensitive data PII/PCI/PHI data in snowflake.
  • Knowledge of security administration (SAML, SCIM, etc).
  • Experience with architecting and maintaining high availability production systems.
  • Experience with developing monitoring architecture and implementing monitoring agents, dashboards, escalations, and alerts.
  • Experience with DevOps concepts.
  • Knowledge of security controls for the public cloud (encryption of data in motion/rest and key management).
  • Demonstrated proficiency of index design, query plan optimization and analysis required.
  • Hands-on experience in administration of relational Databases, Data Warehouse and Data marts.
  • Drive for continuous learning around Snowflake features and enhancements. 
     

 

Your experience and resume will show us:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 5+ years of work experience in Computer Science, Information Systems, or another related field.
  • Minimum 4+ years of related experience in Snowflake administration.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with SQL.
  • Strong communication and written skills.
