Sobeys is full of exciting opportunities and we are always looking for bright new talent to join our team! We currently have a full-time opportunity for an Application Developer. This role can be based out of one our main offices including: Stellarton, NS; Mississauga, ON; Alberta, AB.

Here’s where you’ll be focusing:

 

As an Applications Developer with Sobeys, you will:

 

  • Assists Tech Lead and Business Solutions Engagement Team Analysts to estimate and develop new software programs and solutions.
  • With assistance from Tech Lead and Senior teammates, translates user requirements into solution designs and defines functional, technical, and operational requirements.
  • Documents and presents how the solution’s specific features, characteristics, functionality, and design will meet business requirements.
  • Provides End-User and Operational System Support documentation.
  • Updates Management and Scrum Lead on progress, risks, issues, and defects during the solution delivery phase.
  • Assists the Scrum Lead in updating the Team Backlog and participates in Scrum sessions.
  • Analyzes and amends software to correct defects in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Delivers quality and performance driven solutions within project timelines.
  • Creates unit, integration, and performance test plans with detailed test cases and records test results.
  • Writes and tests solutions without errors and conforming to best practice.
  • Develops and Tests Software Application Solutions in a project team/task-based environment.
  • Enhances, supports, and documents software solution and specifications throughout the system development life cycle. 
  • Provides application support to end-users.
  • Participates in an on-call rotation after hours.
  • Identifies continuous improvement opportunities.

What you have to offer:

 

Requirements:

 

  • An Undergraduate Degree or College Diploma and minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and support.
  • Experience with Database Systems and SQL Syntax (DB2, Oracle, Informix).
  • Experience with Scripting and Programming Languages (Korn Shell, PCL, 4gl).
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in learning and understanding new technologies.
  • Ability to conduct research into software-related issues and products.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team environment.
  • Solid written communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and focused, paying keen attention to detail.
  • Experience with AIX/Unix Environment.

 

Assets:

 

  • Experience with Supply Chain and Logistics Warehouse Applications (Blue Yonder Transportation Management System, INFOR EXE Warehouse Management System, Blue Yonder Advanced Warehouse Replenishment).
  • Experience with AS400.
  • Experience with SAP Retail (SAP S/4).
  • Experience with Azure DevOps.
  • Experience with software development and solution delivery methodologies including Scrum, Agile, and Lean an asset.
  • Experience with On-Call Support.
