Overview


Sobeys is full of exciting opportunities and we are always looking for bright new talent to join our team! We currently have full-time opportunity for an Accountant in the Accounting & Control team of our Finance function, based out of our office in Stellarton, Nova Scotia.

Job Description


What you will do in this fast-paced role:
 

  • Accurately account for transactions in the general ledger accounts
  • Prepare and review working papers that support account balances, and investigation of any issues
  • Perform account reconciliations
  • Prepare and post journal entries
  • Analyze account and cost centre balances for reasonableness, consistency, and compliance with IFRS
  • Facilitate the internal and external audit of accounts
  • Ensure compliance with Sobeys Inc. accounting standards, policies and IFRS
  • Ensure compliance with CEO/CFO Certification requirements
  • Prepare various analytical and ad-hoc reports
  • Perform month-end and year-end financial reporting analysis
  • Work closely with the Manager Finance, Accounting & Control to ensure standardized and efficient processing of accounts

What you resume and experience will demonstrate to us:


Required:
 

  • Relevant post secondary education (Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, etc.)
  • 2+ years relevant experience in Accounting/Finance preferred
  • Strong computer skills; Proficient use of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Solid analytical and problem solving skills
  • Proven time management, organization, prioritization, and multi tasking skills
  • Ability to anticipate issues and recommend appropriate actions
     

Preferred:
 

  • Completion of or working toward a professional accounting designation (CA, CPA, CGA, CMA)
  • SAP Experience
