Overview

 

We are looking for a Quality Assurance Specialist to join our team, focusing on providing expertise in quality assurance and manufacturing for Sobeys Own Brand products. You will be supporting in supplier management ensuring food safety and quality targets are met and facilitating investigations and responses to customer feedback.
 

Job Requirements

 

  • Provide quality assurance and manufacturing expertise to cross functional teams to develop Own Brand products from concept to shelf – key focus areas are Produce, Home Meal Replacement (HMR) and Bulk Products.

  • Support new Supplier qualification and provide recommendations based on Audit, Risk assessment and / or on-site visits.

  • Maintenance of active Suppliers and products.

  • Assess Supplier Food Safety and product certification.

  • Work closely with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure all products are delivered with pace and on strategy – team members include Product Developer, Brand Manager, Data Specialist, Regulatory Affairs, and Food Safety.

  •  Ensure all products meet Food Safety requirements and defined Quality targets.

  • Review packaging and artwork for Quality / Safety requirements 

  • Conduct investigations into complaint/inquiries with supplier partners - for corrective and preventive actions 

  • Provide technical support to Sobeys Customer Care with respect to Own Brand product complaints and inquiries.

  •  Monitor, evaluate and trend customer complaint data, investigate and report findings to stakeholders.

  • Facilitate CFIA Food safety investigations, support incident management, recall and corrective action process for all Own Brands products.

  • Manage and assist in the execution of the recall system after hours and on weekends as required and pertaining to Own Brand products. 

  • Manage risk assessment of Own Brand Supplier sites. 

  • Drive continuous quality improvement through monitoring performance of existing Own Brand products in market and actioning with suppliers as necessary.

  • Be an advocate for Own Brands across all areas of the business.

  • Role requires travel 20% – 30% travel – domestic and international. 

Skills and Experience Requirements

 

  • An Undergraduate Degree and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience 
  • Experience in manufacturing of food products – focus area Produce and Home Meal Replacement
  • Knowledge of GFSI recognized schemes for manufacturing and HACCP
  • Knowledge and application of Risk Assessment and Root Cause Analysis
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams, including regulatory affairs, brand management, product development, food safety, and customer care
