Sobeys is full of exciting opportunities, and we are always looking for bright new talent to join our team! We currently have a 12 months opportunity for a Senior Application Developer. This role is based out of our office in Mississauga, ON.

 

Here’s where you’ll be focusing:

 

What You’ll Do:

 

  • Lead the development of new features and enhancements in our React Native applications for iOS and Android.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (design, product, backend, QA) to translate business requirements into high-quality, maintainable code.
  • Write clean, reusable, and well-tested TypeScript/JavaScript code following best practices and coding standards.
  • Integrate RESTful APIs, GraphQL endpoints, and cloud services into mobile apps.
  • Optimize app performance, memory usage, and responsiveness.
  • Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve issues across the mobile stack.
  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines for React Native builds and deployments.
  • Conduct code reviews, mentor junior developers, and promote engineering excellence.
  • Build and maintain native modules in Swift/Kotlin when needed for React Native integration.
  • Stay current with the latest React Native releases, ecosystem libraries, and mobile development trends.

What you have to offer:

 

  • 6+ years of professional software development experience, with 4+ years in React Native delivering production apps at scale.
  • Proficiency in JavaScript (ES6+) and TypeScript.
  • Solid understanding of mobile app architecture, state management (Redux, MobX, or Recoil), and navigation (React Navigation).
  • Experience with native iOS (Swift/Objective-C) and/or Android (Kotlin/Java) development for integrating platform-specific features into React Native.
  • Strong understanding of RESTful API design, Firebase, and mobile security best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Repos, Git, Gitflow, CI/CD pipelines, and build tools.
  • Familiarity with testing frameworks such as Jest, Detox, or Appium.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies and experience working in Scrum teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work in ambiguous, fast-paced environments.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

 

Nice to haves:

 

  • Understanding and experience in Python.
  • Experience with performance profiling and optimization in React Native apps.
  • Knowledge of GraphQL and Apollo Client.
  • Experience with mobile analytics, A/B testing, and feature flagging.
  • Familiarity with cloud environments (GCP, AWS, or Azure) for mobile backend integration.
  • Understanding of DevOps, SRE principles, and mobile app observability (New Relic).
