Sobeys is full of exciting opportunities, and we are always looking for passionate new talent to join our team! We are currently looking for a National Store Design Coordinator.
This role will support the National Manager of Design & Store Planning in the creation, coordination, and implementation of prototypical store layouts for multiple national banners. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and maintaining interior and exterior design standards, ensuring alignment across various stakeholders, and managing all design-related documentation.
The ideal candidate will have retail design experience, preferably within the grocery sector. Key responsibilities will include developing and coordinating architectural drawings, concept sketches and renderings, fixture plans, interior and exterior finishes schedules and design standards, working drawings and specifications. A solid understanding of Building Code requirements and strong technical knowledge of construction details is essential. Proficiency in AutoCAD/Revit, SketchUp, Bluebeam, Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Office Suite are essential as well.
Here’s where you’ll be focusing:
The National Store Design Coordinator will be responsible for a range of duties that combine design expertise, technical knowledge, project coordination, and effective communication. Key skills and responsibilities for the role include but are not limited to:
- National Prototype and Standards Development: Gather and align information from multiple stakeholders such as Customer Experience, Construction, Procurement, Strategic Sourcing, Real Estate, Operations, Marketing, and Design. Effectively communicate National design standards and ensure consistent implementation across all projects.
- Drafting and Technical Drawing: Expertise in producing architectural drawings, fixture plans, interior and exterior elevations, décor drawings, and construction details using AutoCAD, Revit, and Bluebeam.
- Design and Concept Development: Use SketchUp and Photoshop to create design concepts and sketches that effectively communicate design ideas to leadership.
- Technical Writing and Communication: Draft and distribute National Design Bulletins to ensure all stakeholders are informed of updated standards, specifications, and design guidelines.
- Project Coordination and Quality Control: Thorough understanding of the design and construction process and timelines. Ability to coordinate and conduct the production, review, and approval of design documents for National rollout projects, ensuring adherence to design standards and accuracy.
- Consultant and Vendor Management: Manage relationships with external consultants (ASM&E) to ensure their drawings align with National prototypical design standards. Oversee third-party vendors to maintain project quality and consistency.
- FFE Standards and Supplier Collaboration: Work with Strategic Sourcing and suppliers to establish Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment (FFE) standards that align with overall design guidelines.
- Sample Board and Library Management: Organize and maintain sample boards and libraries for interior and exterior finishes across various National banners.
- Documentation Management & BIM 360 Docs: Ensure all design documents are up-to-date and properly maintained in BIM 360 Docs, including finishes schedules, design documents, equipment cutsheets, shop drawings, architectural drawings, etc.
- Site Review and Evaluation: Conduct site reviews and evaluate store locations to ensure compliance with design specifications.
- Adaptability and Flexibility: Support Regional Design Teams with various tasks as needed, demonstrating versatility and a broad skill set.
What you have to offer:
- Degree or Diploma in Architecture or Interior Design preferred.
- Bachelor of Technology degree or diploma in Architectural Technology.
- NCIDQ is an asset.
- 3 – 5 years as a Store Planner or Designer in the retail industry (preferably grocery retail).
- 3 – 5 years in Architectural/Design firm, or industry related field.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, SketchUp, Adobe Photoshop, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to manage a variety of complex projects simultaneously.
- A self starter, with the ability to gather and assess information, formulate, and evaluate alternatives and propose a recommended solution.
- Experience in grocery store design and development is an asset.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to visualize and communicate design concepts through sketches, 3D renderings and/or 2D drawings.
Additional Requirements:
- May be required to lift up to 22 lbs (Samples, etc.)
- Sitting for long periods of time; may involve walking or standing during site visits.
- Using a computer keyboard and mouse for long periods of time.
- Travel may be required (10%-20%).
- Access to a personal vehicle for site visits.
