This role can be based out of one our main offices including: Stellarton, NS; Mississauga, ON; Calgary, AB.
Here’s where you’ll be focusing:
As a Manager Innovation & Strategy Partnership with Sobeys, you will:
- Drive an innovation strategy that enables the transformation of the business through experimentation and adoption of emerging and advanced technologies.
- Spearhead efforts to identify, assess, and apply future technologies to drive innovation within our organization.
- Identify emerging technologies and trends relevant to Sobeys' business objectives, and share insights with relevant leaders.
- Evaluate the potential business impact and feasibility of adopting emerging technologies through rigorous assessment and analysis.
- Lead the design and execution of experiments, proof of concepts (POCs), and pilots to validate the applicability of new technologies within Sobeys' operational framework.
- Collaborate with key technology and business stakeholders to identify gaps, success criteria and metrics for POCs and define a realistic implementation path.
- Build a culture of technology innovation and continuous improvement by creating an innovation hub for cross-functional collaboration.
- Provide guidelines on technology best practices and standards for sustainment and maintenance of new technologies.
- Build and nurture relationships with technology vendors, startups, and industry partners to stay abreast of innovation trends and opportunities.
- Prepare and present findings, indicative costing, recommendations, and progress to leadership to gain alignment.
- Takes ownership of the new technology from identification through pilot lifecycle, working with teams they do not have direct authority over to deliver and unlock value.
- Fosters a culture of innovation and technology awareness across IT and with key business stakeholders; acts as the Centre of Excellence.
- Stays current on innovative and emerging technology advancements.
- Provides thought leadership, direction, and insights on advanced technologies and industry trends.
- Can lead and develop more junior colleagues, both formally and informally.
- Ensure emerging technologies are captured in the overall technology strategy (with Manager of Strategy).
- Communicate technology advancement research and POC outcomes to IT team (with Planning and execution lead).
- Planning & execution of cross-functional experiments, proof of concepts (POCs), and pilots with stakeholders from across IT and the business (IT & stakeholder leaders).
- Management of an innovation pipeline that covers relevant use cases for key stakeholders (IT & stakeholder leaders).
- Manage and delivery value from technology and data vendor partnerships and strategies (IT leadership).

What you have to offer:
Your experience and resume will show us:
- Bachelor’s degree in innovation management, computer science, information technology, business, or related advanced degrees preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of proven experience in technology assessment, proof of concept development, establishing technology standards within a large technology enterprise or as a consultant.
- Hands-on and practical experience with experimental technology and frameworks including cloud, data and analytics.
- Experience delivering technology projects, programs, or strategies.
- Passion for innovation and staying abreast with technological advancements.
- Ability to envision and articulate real world application of technology.
- Retail or consumer goods industry experience is an asset.
