We have a full-time opportunity for a Manager, Food Safety Supply Partner Management.
The Manager, Food Safety Supply Partner Management, will lead the development of food safety standards, processes, and programs for branded supplier approval nationally. Responsible for identification of potential food safety risks and review of supplier audits including Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) audits, Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) certification, regulatory licensing and implementation processes as applicable. Act as the primary food safety resource for development and support of branded supplier management strategies. Act as a secondary food safety resource for RSCs/e-commerce. Lead RFP processes and choose national service providers, as applicable.
 

Job Description

 

• Develop benchmarked food safety process, programs, training content, training delivery and auditing practices for the national branded supplier network
• Determine food safety approval criteria for various supplier groups based on food safety risk in product and processes. 
• Effectively risk assess new and established products and processes to evaluate potential food safety risks for suppliers, including in emerging areas of risk and novel food trends
• Execute and hold primary responsibility for supplier approvals nationally in key areas of business 
• Develop and maintain the vendor approval process for all branded product in key areas of business
• Develop training and support for regional and national teams on auditing and approving vendors
• Assist in the implementation, selection and maintenance of a vendor tracking system
• Develop resources for vendors who are not meeting requirements (including publicly available resources or tools) and execute the qualifying hold program
• Liaise with CFIA, other regulatory bodies, third-party auditing companies and external partners
• Support development of FS audit standards for RSCs and Voila, train RSCs and external auditors and oversee audit scheduling. 
• Conduct internal assessments to ensure all RSC’s meet FS requirements as requested
• Document and report unsafe practices, food safety/regulatory/quality issues
• Engage in personal development and be receptive to coaching, on-the-job learning and formal training support
• Support Sobeys Talent Management succession planning strategy with action plans that align to individual and organizational needs
• Embrace a safety focused culture
• Ensure all applicable company policies and procedures are communicated and adhered to
• Create metrics and report on results to senior management
• Participate in support of recall process, including scheduled rotation and emergency support of recall process after hours and on weekends
• Communicate verbally and in writing effectively, at a technical and professional level in English and French. The candidate will be expected to work with peers in other provinces in the development, development and implementation of tools and processes across Canada, as well as provide support to Sobeys employees across Canada
 

 

Job Requirements

• Experience in developing and supporting policy and processes that have national applicability
• Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
• Strong technical knowledge of food safety manufacturing across multiple categories
• Excellent analytical skills and demonstrated ability to identify and communicate potential food safety risks
• Understanding of Canadian Food Regulation (Federal, Provincial, Local) nationally, including Quebec
• Technical expertise in food safety and HACCP certified/trained
• Experience developing/implementing food safety programs in distribution centres, vendor approval processes and GFSI schemes
• Ability to initiate projects, identify gaps and create solutions to reduce risk
• Understanding of CFIA and Health Canada’s recall processes and methods. Experience in managing recalls in a variety of products.
• Participate in support of recall process, including scheduled rotation and emergency support of recall process after hours and on weekends
• Excellent knowledge of food-related Canadian legislation, policies, and guidelines regarding manufacturing, distribution and logistics.
• Ability to communicate proficiently in technical subjects in both English and French
• 5-7 years experience in food manufacturing/food safety program development/food distribution
• 1 year managing HACCP federally regulated facility, 1-3 years managerial
• Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite
