Overview
Job Description

 

Own strategic sourcing across all designated lines of business

  • Create and implement strategy for the sourcing function to deliver continuous improvement and better value to the business across the various spend categories
  • Act as primary interface for functional leadership on all sourcing matters, including understanding of strategic imperatives and operating plans, jointly setting procurement priorities, formulating savings initiatives, and ensuring procurement is meeting operational needs
  • Lead sourcing event execution for all functions, specifically: assess function-level needs and objectives, define service-level agreements/scope of work, scope sourcing events, identify vendors, conduct RFP processes, co-lead vendor decisions
  • Own vendor negotiations during sourcing events to help Sobeys organization meet savings targets
  • Develop and maintain a risk mitigation plan for Sobeys organization and category managers to ensure long-term supply of critical materials and services; develop and maintain continuity of supply plan
  • Maintain a clear understanding of department programs being executed by competitors
  • Analyze sourcing performance in the market place and at individual competitors

 

Deliver strategic sourcing targets for designated categories

  • Build and drive annual savings plans by interfacing with functional owners and Finance, covering: savings, free cash flow, budget impact and forecasting
  • Own savings and accountable to meet strategic sourcing targets across designated lines of business, including P&L and Free Cash Flow impact for Sobeys
  • Create, develop and lead cross-functional teams to execute against sourcing targets
  • Communicate category performance to functional leadership (VPs and Executives)

 

Drive strategic sourcing initiatives with cross-functional leadership

  • Act as critical business partner for functional leadership to drive the strategic sourcing process (e.g., VP and Executives)
  • Educate lines of business around strategic sourcing process and initiatives
  • Manage category strategic sourcing to drive cost reduction, quality / service improvements and process improvements for all sourcing activities
  • Ensure appropriate sourcing strategies are in place for effective and timely execution of initiatives
  • Oversee Sobeys strategic sourcing spend across all functions supported

 

Empower employees and develop top talent

  • Report to the VP, Indirect Sourcing and provide leadership, coaching, counseling and support to manager-level and analyst-level staff to ensure daily tasks and long-term strategic results are obtained
  • Work collaboratively with other functional leadership to ensure that all business objectives are achieved
  • Coach, train and mentor team to foster an environment for skill development and career progression to develop and recruit top talent
  • Ensure a high level of personal and team education on department strategies being executed in North America and Europe
Job Requirements

 

  • An Undergraduate Degree with a minimum of 12 years relevant experience
  • Business experience in a purchasing, merchandising or retail environment is an asset
  • Experience leading procurement/sourcing decisions and owning/facilitating strategic sourcing process (e.g., defining service-level agreements/scope of work, launching RFPs, negotiating with vendors)
  • Leadership presence and proven ability to influence Executives and VPs 
  • Experience leading procurement for relevant functions
  • Deep understanding of strategic cost imperatives
  • Ability to formulate savings initiatives
  • Ability to formulate operating plans to meet cost targets
  • Ability to build strategic relationships with designated functional leadership
  • Ability to develop top talent within strategic sourcing organization
