Overview

 

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced individual to join us as Director, IT Quality Engineering & Automation. Reporting to the VP, IT Shared Services & Head of Cyber Security you will lead the newly created Sobeys Quality Engineering & Automation team to enable our digital transformation and business growth.  

 

This role can be based out of one our main offices including: Mississauga, ON; Stellarton, NS; Dartmouth, NS; Calgary, AB; or Montreal, QC. 
 

Job Description

As the Director, Quality Engineering and Automation with Sobeys you will:

  • Build an engaged and high performing team
    • Coach and mentor leaders in the team to enable them to excel in their roles and support engagement activities, training, and career development for all teammates
  • Lead our enterprise-wide application testing & quality engineering program
    • Support our seasoned team of test leads to design, execute, and manage application testing across all portfolios within Sobeys. 
    • Partner with product and business leaders to understand their quality needs and incorporate that into the enterprise-wide quality engineering program
    • Work closely with our managed applications testing partner to govern intake, plan testing projects, and execute testing to drive quality engineering outcomes
    • Manage & evolve our various testing labs including store/retail testing labs
    • Work closely with the cyber security team and DevOps team to drive security testing during all phases of application development (DevSecOps)
    • Aggressively drive an Automation First mandate in all phases of testing. Define & improve quality engineering and automation policies and procedures
    • Ensure compliance with audit regulations for all applications and processes managed by the quality engineering team
    • Design, measure, report, and continuously improve quality engineering metrics 
  • Lead our release management program
    • Partner with our enterprise project management, product, and business leaders to execute a robust enterprise-wide application release program
    • Support the release planning leads to diligently manage intake and collaborate with stakeholders to plan deployments
    • Support the team to manage the various environments required for testing and production launches
  • Lead our automation program
    • Drive the implementation & growth of our Robotic Process Automation (RPA) factory. Work with product and business leaders to identify opportunities for automation, manage intake, and lead execution to achieve outcomes
    • Drive a culture of automation and continuously look for opportunities to drive automation across all domains
    • Design, measure, report, and continuously improve automation metrics 
  • Strategy & roadmap delivery 
    • Develop and maintain a 3-year quality engineering & automation roadmap, aligned with the IT roadmap and enterprise priorities. Plan and execute projects to deliver on the established roadmap

Job Requirements

 

What your experience and resume will demonstrate the following:

  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or Engineering 
  • Minimum of 10 years progressive work experience in information technology
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in applications testing, quality assurance, quality engineering
  • Minimum of 3 years of people leadership
  • Experience with both functional and non-functional (load, performance, failure, etc) test design & execution
  • Experience leading test automation programs desired. Knowledge and experience with testing & automation tools
  • Knowledge and experience with process automation (RPA etc) desired. Experience with RPA platforms (ex. UIPath) desired
  • Knowledge and experience in DevOps, DevSecOps, and tooling (Jira, Confluence, SAST/DAST etc) desired
