Are you trailer/reefer mechanic thinking about relocating to Alberta? Consider bringing your skills to the Sobeys Retail Support Center in Edmonton. Sobeys has a fleet of more than 250 reefer trailers, tractors, and converters. We are currently seeking a mechanically minded individual to ensure our trailer fleet is running safely and efficiently.
Work Environment
Our shop is a small shop that services only Sobeys equipment. We have no mobile repair work.
Monday to Friday work, with full 8-hour shifts. Our morning shift is 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM. The evening shift is 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM. There is a premium for evening shift.
Here’s where you’ll be focusing:
- Respond to all equipment breakdowns in a timely manner;
- Diagnose malfunctions and perform refrigeration repairs;
- Ensure preventive maintenance inspections are completed according to company guidelines;
- Perform general trailer repairs including brakes, suspension, electrical and basic mechanical repairs;
- Complete Annual Commercial Vehicle Inspections to Alberta standards;
- Communicate effectively with drivers, dispatchers and other transportation team members as required to schedule and complete repairs.

What you have to offer:
- 310J Certificate of Qualification or other trade designation from another province
- Trade Certification required during the interview process
- 2 – 5 years work experience as a reefer/trailer mechanic
- A minimum 2 years’ experience with trailer reefer equipment, preferably with ThermoKing reefers
- Have your own tools

Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on trailers in the Sobeys Fleet. Actively contribute to a positive and productive working environment.
Here’s where you’ll be focusing:
• Reviewing pre/ post trip log sheets and repair inspection sheets for defects and out of service equipment
• Follow preventative maintenance schedule on equipment
• Perform necessary repairs on all equipment
• Troubleshoot with drivers on equipment problems
• Assist in ordering parts as needed
• Check and inspect equipment for repairs
• Conduct annual commercial vehicle inspections on all equipment
• Other duties as assigned
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment as per company requirements
What you have to offer:
• Good working knowledge of trailer repair methods
• Must exhibit methodical work habits
• Must be contentious and able to attain all pre-set work deadlines
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Class one license or knowledge in driving tractor trailer equipment
• Certified journeyman mechanic
• Two or more years related experience
• Previous trailer repair experience
• Physical work including frequent bending, lifting, and reaching
• Occasionally lift over 88 lbs
• Two person lift required for weights exceeding 50 lbs
• Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
• Possible exposure to extreme temperatures
• Alertness to other people and vehicles
• Various shifts including evenings and weekends
