Overview
A great opportunity to join our family and embrace Pharmacist Scope of Practice. Lawtons Drugs has opened numerous Pharmacist Walk-In Clinics to date within Nova Scotia and we continue to expand our offering. We are looking for teammates to join us on this journey, as we work collaboratively with Nurse Practitioners, surrounding Community Pharmacies and Practitioners and Emergency Departments to help enhance our patient outcomes and do our part to help alleviate pressures on primary care. These positions offer the opportunity for practice both within our Pharmacist Walk-In Clinics and traditional Community Pharmacies as well as upcoming virtual opportunities.
What is a Pharmacist Walk In Clinic?
A new innovative offering from Lawtons Drugs. Our pharmacists are responsible for providing standard and enhanced clinical pharmacy to customers and medical practitioners. The focus is on clinical services for our patients while supporting our stores with dispensing services and collaborative care. As a partnership with Nova Scotia Health, pharmacists and nurse practitioners work together towards better patient access and quality and timely care. The pharmacist will take a lead in pharmacy operations at the clinic, while reporting directly to the pharmacy manager.
Whether at the Walk In Clinic or community pharmacy, the pharmacist will work to collaborate with other health care practitioners. The pharmacist will also be an active lead in promoting and contributing to health services being provided in the local community and company. The pharmacist will provide guidance and supervision to all pharmacy staff and will ensure that all patients are offered and receive professional clinical services.
Job Description
Patient Focused Care and Dispensing Services
• Focus is on clinical services (i.e., chronic disease state mgmt., medication reviews, health risk assessments, minor ailments)
• Prescription safety prioritizing technical functions to Pharmacy Assistants when available.
• Initiate care plans, follow up, and document utilizing Med Access (EMR), and ordering lab work for patients in need.
• Collect relevant patient, drug, and disease information
• Identification of actual and potential drug related problems
• Monitor medication adherence
• Provide patient counselling for new therapy and determine patients understanding as to why they are taking the medication.
• Tailor counselling to the needs and concerns of the patient i.e., literacy, hearing loss, privacy, etc.
• Identifying programs and services that are individualized to support patient care

• Exceeds customer expectations.

• Demonstrate warmth, empathy, and compassion towards the customer
• Provide superior customer service to every customer
• Adhere to and implement all applicable company standards
Other
• Operational efficiencies and safety practices in place when dispensing medications
• The pharmacist must have the knowledge to be able to assess and prescribe for all the minor ailments as well as knowledgeable on various chronic disease states in a timely and efficiently fashion. Appendix F of the NSCP Prescribing Standards enables a PHC to collaborate with primary care practitioners and pharmacist at this clinic will be practicing to that model.
• Candidates must be willing to go into the community and hospitals to build relationships and collaborate with medical practitioners and explain/demonstrate the value of pharmacists in collaborative health care.
• Candidates must be able to connect with direct pay patients to explain the value of the service provided.
• Candidates must be willing to take on further training to demonstrate complete competency in the services provided.
• Candidates must be passionate about clinical care and confident in their decision-making. As we evolve this type of clinic, candidate must be willing to confront biases and have healthy debates with other HCP as appropriate.

Job Requirements
Technical Skills:
• Above average communication skills (both oral and written)
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Self-directed and able to work independently to meet strict deadlines
• Ability to be a team player in a fast-paced environment
Preferred:
• Familiarity with Kroll and/or MedAccess Software
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from a recognized institution.
• Must be a Licensed Pharmacist in the province of responsibility
• Injection Certification
• Previous experience in a retail and/or retail pharmacy setting preferred
