Why Sobeys?

Career Paths

After the completion of the CPA program, there are a number of career opportunities available within the company. At Sobeys, we have over 100 employees who are either working towards designations, or already designated professional accountants within various areas of the business. These professionals use the experience gained while training for their accounting designations in their new roles as Analysts, Senior Analysts, Managers, Directors or Vice Presidents.
With opportunities for roles in Finance, Tax, Merchandising, Marketing, Category Management, Information Technology, Human Resources and/or Retail Operations, the sky is the limit for those with a passion for this business and who drive for success!

Job Rotations

During your CPA training at Sobeys, you will have the opportunity to work in other areas of the business typically unavailable through accounting firm programs. For example, Internal Audit will give you insight into the planning, execution and reporting of various audits that relate to potential organization risks. Working in our Real Estate or Retail Accounting teams you will be responsible for accounting for properties and/or stores, identifying, preparing and analyzing reports to be presented to various levels of management. At Sobeys, we know your practical experience drives your passion for the business. Practical work experience is a key element in becoming a CPA.

Mentors

The CPA program is an intense program and that is why Sobeys assigns each of their students a mentor. These mentors are recent graduates themselves and are there for support during the CPA modules and the Common Final Evaluation.
Further, each student is assigned a more senior professional (Counseling Member) who works with the student at least twice a year to ensure the student is meeting the practical experience required for the CPA program.
